WEST END TRAILS PROJECT

Due in part of the efforts of the SPLT, the east end of South Portland enjoys an extensive trail network. Utilizing the Greenbelt Walkway and side trails it is possible for most of the citizens on the city's east end can travel several miles between Bug Light Park on the shore of Casco Bay to the Wainwright ball fields area with only three  major road crossings.

The City's west end has not been so fortunate.

Starting in the fall of 2005, the South Portland Land Trust began planning an extensive series of pedestrian and recreational trails to change all that.

The Land Trust has formed the West End Trails Committee, comprised of representatives from city government, local businesses and neighborhoods, area developers, utilities and environmental organizations to begin mapping and generating funding for a series of pedestrian and recreational trails extending west of Evans St and extending through scenic areas and neighborhoods including the Maine Mall area
